Resources for packaging buyers

Flexible Packaging Buyer Guides

Start with the product you need to protect, define the pouch specification, then compare complete quotations. These resources help you prepare a clearer brief and see the costs that a unit price alone leaves out.

Plan the order before choosing a supplier

An inexpensive pouch is only useful if it works with your product, filling process and order volume. Use the guide to identify decisions, the template to collect consistent offers, and the calculator to compare each offer on the same cost basis.

Send every supplier the same RFQ

Our request-for-quotation template has fields for the product, finished dimensions, film layers, thickness, print method, artwork count, closure, quantity per design, named trade term, destination, lead time and separate charges. It also asks suppliers to identify the evidence that supports their proposed material.

Leave an undecided field marked “please recommend and explain”. A material suggestion is not an approved specification until its suitability has been checked for your application.

A practical first-order workflow

  1. Write one specification per design. State the product, size, film, features, artwork and required quantity. Record open questions rather than filling them with guesses.
  2. Request itemized offers. Keep the specification, quantity and named trade basis consistent. Ask suppliers to list deviations separately.
  3. Compare the complete cost. Include tooling, samples, inspection, freight and relevant import costs once. Avoid adding freight again if it is already included in the quoted price.
  4. Approve the application and production reference. Review the proposed materials, applicable evidence, sample, drawing and artwork before committing to production.
